Wide Area Monitoring Solutions
The GOC Group Wide Area Monitoring Solution (WAMS) enables real time collection of power system data by installing phasor measurement units (PMUs) at strategic locations on the grid. The PMUs send the data over the C-37.118 communication protocol to GOC Group’s high performance, scalable SYNC 4000 Synchro Phasor Data Concentrator (PDC) and protocol conversion gateway. SYNC 4000 PDC collects and integrates data from multiple PMUs and transmits it after validation and time synchronization. The SYNC 4000 PDC has the capability to collect data from a large number of PMUs simultaneously at user defined rates. The data is then sent to upstream data concentrators and applications for further analysis
As utilities strive to ensure reliable and efficient power supply to their consumers, there is an increasing need for close monitoring of the electric grid infrastructure. Real time situational awareness provided by an efficient wide area monitoring system is key to ensuring reliable power supply and a critical component of Smart Grid enablement in the transmission grid.
SCADA systems are designed to remotely acquire substation parameters from IED’s (Intelligent Electronic Devices) and RTU’s (Remote Terminal Units) and process this data to provide real-time operational support to the transmission grid. However, with the advent of Phasor Measurement Units and accurate time synchronization facility using GPS (Global Positioning System) clocks, it is possible to monitor the grid more accurately and in real-time.
This technology facilitates early detection of disturbances and degradation in the grid and helps prevent outages that conventional SCADA systems have failed to do. This technology is widely known as Synchro Phasor Technology. Synchro phasor technologies offer utilities communication networks that transmit data at high speeds with low latency, enable measurement of voltage, current and frequency at very fast rates, and allow real time transmission of data to the central situational awareness control system. Phasor measurement units are installed to record time-synchronized power system data that is used to gain an in depth view of operating conditions on the grid. It helps detect disturbances that would have remained unnoticed in the past and initiate preventive measures. It also enables detailed analysis of grid conditions before, during and after an adverse event, and diagnosis of its causes.
SYNC 4000 PDC
SYNC 4000 PDC is a high performance and scalable synchro-phasor data concentrator and protocol conversion gateway for Wide Area Monitoring applications. It is capable of collecting phasor data streamed from any IEEE C37.118 or IEC 61850-90-5 compliant phasor measurement unit via Ethernet and aggregates all the input streams, performs data validation and time alignment and transmits aggregated packets to multiple servers / control centers.
SYNC 4000 supports protocol conversion from C37.118 or IEC 61850 to a number of common power system protocols, for interfacing with SCADA, EMS or other third party applications. User friendly tools for configuration and diagnostics make engineering, system integration and commissioning quick and easy. SYNC 4000
PDC supports configurable sampling rates ranging from 10 samples per second to 60 samples per second.

Historian
Historian is a real time data software for acquiring, storing and displaying large amounts of operations and engineering information. It collects data from communicators deep within the enterprise and stores it in a highly compressed format, allowing time-series data to be stored online in its original resolution. It enables accurate and timely performance-based decisions that reduce operating costs. Historian stores the parameters relevant for evaluating the performance of individual equipment. Along with the process parameter it continuously records the status of equipment. GOC Group has partnered with INSTEP Software LLC to provide their leading historian application eDNA as a solution.
